Notes:

  • Post cards are also great to send in the packages. You can pre-address the postcard to yourself or your organization with a note asking the service member to please let you know if they received the package.
  • You DO NOT have to put a stamp on the post cards -- the service member can mail them for free back to the states.

I also wanted to mention how thankful I am for you ladies. Each one of you bring something wonderful to the group. I could never find a better group of ladies that I would want to share my homeschool journey with.

February Meetings

Feb. 5th- 4-H meeting ARO, at 10:30 a.m.

Feb. 12th- Highlands Discovery Museum in Ashland
9:30 a.m-12 noon
with a tour of the museum and a Discovery Workshop led by staff. The cost per child is $3.50 with teachers admitted free.
Items from the Teacher Pre-Visit Checklist include:

  • Put name tags on all children for the Discovery Workshop. (Pam has some blank labels we can use if you don't have any.)
  • Remind students that running, climbing, chewing gum, eating, and drinking are not allowed in exhibit areas.
  • Lead teachers check in at Admissions Desk to pay by cash, check, or credit/debit card.
  • If we decide to take our lunches, we are responsible for cleanup of the eating area including wiping tables and sweeping the floor.

Things to Remember During Your Visit:

  • Encourage students to walk, read, and enjoy the many activities.
  • Encourage curiosity and questions.
  • Keep your group together at all times. Do not leave your assigned area until directed to do so by a museum staff member, as this will interrupt the traffic flow and cause congestion. (I figure this will only matter if another group is touring at the same time we are.)
  • The gift shop is open and has items starting at 13 cents (for their popular candy sticks) and up.
  • Be sure to get your teacher packets from the Highlands staff
This is the description of the Discovery Workshop. Digging Even Deeper is for grades K-6. Dig deeper as you investigate the past. Learn how archeologists use artifacts and other clues to determine how ancient people lived. Students will design and create a Native American "winter count" using symbols similar to Native American glyphs.

Have any ideas let us know. See you all next meeting!

hope to have some more field trips listed for the upcoming new year. I think the children have enjoyed the field trips this year!
